"I am always creating something new in the Spitfire Artwork Studio.
Come and see!" - Rachel
"Rachel Vadeboncoeur has been an integral part of the Salt Spring Island Arts Community for nearly two decades. Many of Rachel’s works reside in private collections both in Canada and abroad and several of her paintings have been chosen to grace the covers of books. Since 2003, when she closed the Crow’s Nest studio-gallery, she has been charting new seas with her art.
Expert at manifesting her vision through batik, glass and sculpture, Rachel’s most recent work is with kiln formed objects made of embedded elements fused in glass. The art form utilizes techniques she studied at Espace-Verre in her hometown of Montreal (kiln-forming and sandcasting). The fired objects are often incorporated into abstract paintings, adding a new, elusive and surprising element to the composition, further enflaming the emotional content with the spirit of the kiln. Glass fusion is found in stained glass, wall pieces and jewellery.
The owner of one of Rachel’s glass pieces said, “looking at Rachel’s piece, hanging in the window, sets the mind to play”.
Original, joyous and luminous, the authenticity of Rachel’s vision will undoubtedly touch your soul."
